• Do you have a business card? • Do you advertise on your car? • Do you have a billboard sign for your store? • Do you advertise in local papers? • Do you advertise per mail? • Can customers find you in the phone book? • Do you get business from word of mouth?
All these methods are fine and great ways of making yourself known. A website is just one other way of communicating with your customers. And there is no magic in it, just Do and Don't.
Do give your visitors clear, structured, up to date, no nonsense information. Don't loose customers because of an unprofessional website, incomplete or outdated information or because they simply can't find you online.
You will or will not make business depending upon your website, it's that easy.
Is it expensive/complicated?
It is not.
You can have a good looking custom made professional web site for your business in a few hours. On top of that, your hosting can be free, forever. This is where many site owners pay $20 or more each month.
Should I put all my products online?
Unless you plan to start a web store and ship your products you don't need to put all your products online.
Your website can work as a business card, as advertising, and as an information source for your visitor. But never forget that the visitor has chosen to visit you and is just a click away from leaving you.
There are further advantages to "be online". You can ask your website visitors for their email addresses, and then send out special offers to people that are interested.
What should you put online? Video is a great way to quickly introduce your business for your customers, and you also gain extra Search Engine Optimization for your site. A short introduction of your business and what you offer and how you can be contacted.
The $199 complete website.
My starting fee is $199 and it includes 8 hrs of my work where following takes place:
Consultation:
What do you want to tell your visitors? What pictures do you want to illustrate your business with? Where are you located? Who is your target group? How do you want to be contacted? (email, phone, walk-in...) What do you offer? We discuss this and if you show me your business I can take some pictures and film a short presentation video.
Design:
I create an attractive design based on your business logo and possibly your pictures, never a template. Ready to put text and images into.
Content:
This is the major reason many people drag their feet to get their web site. What should you tell about your company? I can discuss it with you, and write it for you or you can write it yourself.
There are usually 3 basic groups of content:
Start Page - Introductory message and latest news.
About - Introduction to the business and what you offer. Can become several pages depending on what your business offer.
Contact - Company name and contact information, contact form, interactive (google) map, like the one below.
Also called SEO this is how you get yourself known to the search engines. I can't promise to get you on top of the list, but there are some basic steps to take to get there. One way is social networking using video.
Transfer:
Some customers already have a web site that they pay hosting for, which require transfer of both the domain name and the content if they want the free hosting I can offer.
Admin tool walk through
To update your web site it is easy. My web tool makes it easy to change text and add/delete both pages and pictures. I will show you how you can alter your web content, both small changes and advanced. The choice is yours.
Additional Programming
If you consider polls, a guest book, slide shows, interactive sorting of tables, custom contact forms, a store to sell your products or services, extra admin functions etc. that requires additional programming. I go through the options with you, explain pros and cons and give you time frames for them.
After your site is done
To keep your content updated is important if you want your customers to come back for another reason than to find your phone number. To update your content does not have to take more than a few minutes and does not have to be more complicated than to write an email. Updated content is also vital for good SEO. After the admin tool walk through this will be easy.
So how do you get started?
Tell me in a few words about your business and what you would like done. You can attach pictures. Include your phone number and a good time to reach you. Your participation will usually be around 4 hours for an introductory site as above.
